Plasmid-mediated resistance to cephalosporins in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi.

چکیده
This study characterized a cephalosporin-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi isolate. The organism possessed a plasmid encoding the CTX-M-15 extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase. This plasmid is the determinant for the phenotype of cephalosporin resistance and is transferrable among Enterobacteriaceae.

Integron-associated antibiotic resistance in Salmonella enterica serovar typhi from Asia.
Eighteen of 25 isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi were multidrug resistant and contained class 1 integrons with a single cassette, dfrVII or aadA1. The dfrVII-containing integron was likely borne on an IncHI1 plasmid. Salmonella serovar Typhi could become resistant to broad-spectrum cephalosporins by integrating cassettes, such as veb-1, a common cassette in Asia.

This communication states the changing patterns of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi) isolates causing enteric fever in and around Kolkata, India. Among the isolates resistance to ampicillin (A), chloramphenicol (C), cotrimoxazole (Co) and tetracycline (T) were plasmid mediated; the plasmid was unstable in S. Typhi, and the other enteric bacteria like Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneu...
متن کاملEmergence of an Extensively Drug-Resistant Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhi Clone Harboring a Promiscuous Plasmid Encoding Resistance to Fluoroquinolones and Third-Generation Cephalosporins
Antibiotic resistance is a major problem in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, the causative agent of typhoid. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) isolates are prevalent in parts of Asia and Africa and are often associated with the dominant H58 haplotype. Reduced susceptibility to fluoroquinolones is also widespread, and sporadic cases of resistance to third-generation cephalosporins or azithromycin have...
متن کاملEmergence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance among non-Typhi Salmonella enterica isolates from humans in the United States.
Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinants are emerging among gram-negative pathogens. Here we report results of a retrospective study investigating the prevalence of aac(6')-Ib-cr, qepA, and qnr genes among 19,010 human isolates of non-Typhi Salmonella enterica collected in the United States from 1996 to 2006.
متن کاملMultidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar paratyphi A harbors IncHI1 plasmids similar to those found in serovar typhi.
Salmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi A cause systemic infections in humans which are referred to as enteric fever. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) serovar Typhi isolates emerged in the 1980s, and in recent years MDR serovar Paratyphi A infections have become established as a significant problem across Asia. MDR in serovar Typhi is almost invariably associated with IncHI1 plasmids, but the...
